BESS Product & Technical solutions Engineer
Job description
Translate customer, grid and regulatory requirements into safe, technically sound and cost-competitive BESS solutions, from product platform design to project-specific configurations. The role bridges product development, BMS engineering and pre-sales/project delivery, ensuring the full BESS stack (cells, modules, racks, BMS, PCS, EMS) is correctly sized, integrated, validated and compliant with applicable EU and international standards.
Design, develop, and optimize BESS products and systems across the portfolio, including modules, packs, and system integration components
Prepare technical designs and configurations of BESS solutions based on defined product platforms and system architectures
Perform system sizing and technical calculations, including energy and power sizing, performance and efficiency analysis, losses and degradation assumptions, and basic inputs for cost estimation
Develop technical layouts, single-line diagrams, and system documentation
Design, configure, and optimize Battery Management Systems for BESS applications, including architecture definition at cell, module, rack, and system level
Configure BMS parameters, limits, and protection thresholds, including SOC/SOH calculations and balancing strategies
Ensure safe and reliable battery operation in line with system requirements and industry standards
Support integration and communication between BMS, PCS, and EMS; support EMS configuration, monitoring, and basic control logic alignment
Ensure technical compatibility and compliance between hardware and software components across the full BESS stack
Participate in battery safety concepts, risk analysis, and failure mode assessments (e.g. FMEA); support thermal management strategies in cooperation with system and mechanical engineers
Evaluate technical feasibility for customer and project-specific requirements and translate them into viable product and system solutions
Provide technical support during pre-sales and tendering phases, including preparation of technical documentation and solution conceptsAssist with grid code and interconnection requirement analysis
Support project teams during engineering, implementation, and commissioning phases; perform or support BMS testing, validation, and commissioning activities
Analyze BMS data, alarms, and logs to identify issues and optimize performance; support troubleshooting during project execution and operation
Act as a technical interface to battery, BMS, and system suppliers; support evaluation and selection of BMS technologies and vendors
Conduct testing, validation, and performance analysis of products and components; support root cause analysis and corrective actions
Ensure compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and industry standards (IEC, UL, ISO, CE, EU Battery Regulation)
Contribute to the Europeanization of the BMS and broader BESS product platform, including adaptation to EU regulatory, grid code, and certification requirements
Interface with suppliers and partners for material selection, manufacturability, and cost optimization
Prepare and maintain technical documentation, datasheets, application notes, calculations, and configuration records
Respond to technical queries from internal teams and customers; escalate technical risks, limitations, and deviations in a timely manner
Support continuous improvement of engineering tools, templates, and technical workflows
Collaborate with Sales, Project Management, and external partners as required
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive solutions in the energy storage space
